Does Listmonk support automation?

No. Listmonk does subscriber management, list segmentation and campaign sending. It has no automation features such as drip sequences or behavioural triggers. That is why I solve the automation layer separately, with Inngest.

Why this stack instead of Loops.so or Kit?

Two reasons: multi-project support and cost. The Loops.so pricing page (checked April 2026) moves to a $49/month plan past 1,001 contacts and assumes a single brand. Multi-project management in Kit is awkward. The Listmonk + Inngest + Resend stack runs 4 projects from one place at $0 marginal cost.

Doesn't Resend already offer Audiences?

It does, but it is basic. Resend Audiences is fine for holding an email list and sending a broadcast. There is no segmentation, preference center, multi-list management or campaign templating. Listmonk covers that layer far better.

Could someone without technical knowledge set this stack up?

On their own, without technical knowledge, it is hard. At minimum it needs Docker compose + DNS + API key management. There is a Listmonk self-host, an Inngest event function to write, and a Resend API integration. Without technical knowledge, starting with Beehiiv or Kit makes more sense.

Doesn't Listmonk need SMTP?

It asks for SMTP by default, but with the Postback Messenger feature it can also send over an HTTP API. I bypassed SMTP entirely by bridging to the Resend HTTP API with a Cloudflare Worker. Details in the next post.

TL;DR

Email already existed across 4 projects, but differently in each place: code-based sending through the Resend API, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, a CRM in Notion, manual emails after Calendly meetings. I was doing the same development work separately in every project. I researched 8+ services (April 2026 pricing pages), worked out that email automation is three layers, and found that none of the single tools I compared solves all three well. I centralised on Listmonk (subscribers) + Inngest (automation) + Resend (delivery). Marginal cost is $0; the Hetzner+Coolify server was already paid for by other projects.
